So much to do...so little money to do it...

So, I am working away trying to get out of teaching and have a to do list...

Re-draft my 1 Act Comedy

Start writing a new play...

But nothing seems to be coming up that would add money to my bank account!!!

The Script is...finished?

So, the script appears to be finished - "The Voodoo Acupuncturist": a 1 Act play based on the 15 minute comedy I wrote back in September.

It's an odd little comedy, and I suppose it draws on both slap-stick and black comedy, and is all round pretty odd.  Thinking back, though, it's an interesting little story, given that it came from a blitz writing session for the "24 Hour Plays" thing in London.

So, am I happy with the script?

I don't know.  There are elements I like, and there are sections that were a joy to write, and to read back.  But I have now hit that stage where, as a whole, I kind of go off it for a bit.  This  is no doubt as much down to frustration and what can often feel like a massive anti-climax when finishing the play.  Yes, there is that feeling of "achievement" by getting it finished...but it is a script, so it is nowhere near finished until it has been staged.

Luckily, with this one, it should be going on stage in the not-too-distant-future...and that will be great!

For now...I just await the reply from the director who is putting it on stage!

Twiddle-thumb, Twiddle-dee!

A job finished!

So the LX job is now over - been a while since the LX has been the ONLY thing I have had to do on a show!

Show went well, very well received, and besides a few quiet nights, the audiences were good.

My lighting design, which did get very expressionist at times, appears to be quite well approved of, which is good since it was my first design as a member of the Crescent - hopefully lead to many more!

5 Star Review

YAY, a 5 Star review for the production!

It is a very good review indeed, and a quick reference to the lighting is a rare mention for LX design!

Dead chuffed with that!

Oh, shine shine shine!

It has been such fun being an LX designer again without all the other jobs to do at the same time.  Seems to have gone well too - lighting  a thrust stage in a studio, with very little give for angles.

Still, a few extra perks I have added in have impressed the director and actors, which is always good.  We had a photographer in today too, taking snaps of the dress rehearsal.  He was impressed with the lighting but pointed out that some stuff from the sides was a bit dark.

How do you take that?  Well, graciously, and from a photographer, you really do listen to their feedback - they understand lighting and balance, so critical feedback gratefully received and will certainly act on it.  Nevertheless, tomorrow is an evening off!  A well deserved break!

My Doors, doors, doors...

Them there bigguns what I built for that there "A Doll's House" are being used again in another show!   How cool is that?!  I built something that is being used more than once without resulting in anyone's death!  Hehe!
